Crestron Home OS 4 – The Smart Home Platform Just Got Smarter
Crestron has been the gold standard in home automation since 1971. For decades, the company has powered the most sophisticated residences, superyachts, and commercial spaces on the planet — and South Florida is no exception. From Coral Gables estates to Brickell penthouses to 100-foot yachts docked in Fort Lauderdale, Crestron is the technology backbone behind some of the most breathtaking spaces we have the privilege of working in.
Back in 2020, we wrote about Crestron Home OS 3 and called it a new king. A new reign has begun.
Crestron Home OS 4 launched in March 2024 and has been continuously evolving through major releases: 4.1, 4.3, 4.4, and 4.7 (September 2025). Each update has expanded capabilities, opened the ecosystem to more third-party brands, and refined the experience for both homeowners and integrators. Here is a full breakdown of what changed and why it matters.
What’s New in Crestron Home OS 4?
A Redesigned User Interface
The OS 4 interface has been rethought from the ground up — clearer icons, larger text, simplified navigation, and faster response to every tap. For clients across Miami Beach, Aventura, and Sunny Isles who expect every element of their home to reflect a certain standard, the control interface is now part of the experience itself.
If-Then Automation
OS 4 introduces conditional if-then automation that lets you build routines tailored to real life. Motorized blinds that close when a movie starts, lights that dim at sunset, thermostats that adjust when rooms go unoccupied — all of it is easy to configure directly in the Crestron Home app without custom programming.
An Open Ecosystem: More Brands, More Flexibility
OS 4 marks a major shift in how open the Crestron platform is. Native Lutron Ketra lighting integration, a Philips Hue driver that imports scenes directly from the Hue hub, support for Lutron HomeWorks, KNX devices, and a growing library of third-party drivers mean the system can meet virtually any specification. For architects and interior designers who specify lighting brands early in a project, this flexibility is a significant advantage — OS 4 adapts to your design, not the other way around.
DM NAX Audio-Over-IP
OS 4.1 added full support for Crestron’s DM NAX audio-over-IP device family, enabling a seamless distributed audio experience — music that moves with you from the kitchen to the pool deck to the master suite without interruption. OS 4.7 integrated Apple Music directly via the Crestron Home mobile app with no special dealer configuration required. Spotify, Apple Music, and other major streaming services all live within the same interface.
Smarter Security and Access Control
OS 4 added per-user door lock management, including support for the Yale Pro 2 Deadbolt Lock via Crestron EX Locks. Each family member or guest can be granted access to specific entry points — a practical necessity for estate owners managing household staff, property managers, and rotating guests. This integrates directly with your broader security and access control setup.
Energy Management and EV Integration
OS 4.4 introduced EV charging integration via the Phoenix CHARX system, and Tesla vehicle controls — including HVAC preconditioning, charging status, and lock settings — accessible directly from the Crestron Home app. Energy management features also include weather-based automation and usage insights that reduce consumption without sacrificing comfort.
New Hardware: Cameo Keypads and 80 Series Touch Screens
OS 4.7 introduced support for the new Crestron Cameo keypads — RGB backlighting with over 16 million color options, up to 137 layout configurations, field-replaceable buttons, and a bezel-less form factor that installs in retrofit applications without a neutral wire. Horizon keypads received new metal finishes as well. For luxury renovations where every detail is intentional, these options mean the control hardware can be part of the design specification from day one.
The DGE-1000: Whole-Home Control on a Large Display
The Digital Graphics Engine (DGE-1000) brings the full Crestron Home OS interface to large third-party displays, combining display, control, and streaming into a single device. Imagine complete home control on your living room’s 85″ screen, or in a yacht’s main salon on a custom-mounted display. It’s a natural fit for the most opulent homes, hotels, and superyachts.
Sonos Integration
Crestron Home OS now instructs Sonos soundbars to switch automatically between TV audio and streaming music based on the selected source. Switching from Apple TV to music happens with the source selection — no need to cycle the room off and back on. A more intuitive, more enjoyable daily experience.

Who Benefits Most from OS 4?
Luxury Homeowners
Whether your residence is in Coconut Grove, Fisher Island, Golden Beach, or along the Intracoastal, OS 4 delivers a control experience that is faster, smarter, and far more personalized. The platform adapts to your routines rather than the other way around.
Architects and Interior Designers
OS 4’s open ecosystem means Crestron now works natively with the lighting brands you already specify — Lutron Ketra, Philips Hue, KNX — without forcing a compromise on design intent. The expanded keypad options mean control hardware can be specified as part of the aesthetic vision from the earliest stages of a project. Learn more about how we work with design partners.
Builders and Developers
Faster deployment tools, pre-job-site configuration via the myCrestron portal, and streamlined commissioning reduce installation time and increase consistency — a real advantage on multi-unit projects and large new-construction timelines.
Yacht Owners
Crestron has always been a trusted platform in the marine environment. OS 4’s improvements in audio distribution, large-display control, per-user access management, and overall reliability make it even better suited to the demands of a luxury yacht. Whether at the dock or offshore, the experience is seamless.
Schools and Enterprises
The same platform that runs a luxury home scales effortlessly to educational institutions and corporate environments. OS 4’s simplified management tools, expanded device support, and robust access controls make it a strong foundation for any large deployment.
Thinking About Upgrading?
If your home is currently running Crestron Home OS 3, upgrading to OS 4 is not automatic — it requires your integrator to update the system and, in some cases, review hardware compatibility. The good news is that Crestron maintains a strong commitment to backward compatibility, and in most cases the transition is smooth.
Our team handles OS 4 upgrades regularly across South Florida and can assess your current system, flag any hardware considerations, and manage the full migration with minimal disruption to your home.
