Geeks of Technology
Lutron invented the solid-state dimmer in 1961 and has spent every decade since refining lighting and shading control into products that architects and designers specify by name. As an authorized Lutron dealer in South Florida, Geeks of Technology installs and programs their residential lines across new construction, renovations, and commercial projects throughout Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach.
Lutron builds dedicated lighting and shading systems — nothing else. Their residential lineup spans several platforms designed for different project scales. RadioRA 3 is their flagship wireless system for whole-home lighting and shading, built around a clear-connect radio frequency that avoids the interference problems common with Wi-Fi-dependent products. RA2 Select covers mid-tier whole-home projects. RadioRA 2 remains a stable, widely installed platform for residential and light commercial work. For smaller projects or single-room applications, Caséta offers reliable wireless control with a clean app interface, while the Diva and 100 series handle individual device needs like in-wall dimmers and switches.
Two product lines deserve specific attention for high-end residential and hospitality work. Ketra is Lutron’s tunable lighting platform — it adjusts both intensity and color temperature together, which lets a space shift from cool, daylight-aligned white midday to warmer tones in the evening. Lumaris is their architectural LED strip system, designed to integrate directly into the Lutron ecosystem for cove, millwork, and accent applications. Both are built to work alongside the broader Lutron platform, not as add-ons that require separate programming.
Lutron fits well across project types — large estate homes, waterfront condos, boutique hotels, and yacht interiors where reliable lighting and shading control matter as much as the fixture selection itself. On the residential side, RadioRA 3 is a strong fit for new construction projects where the architect or interior designer is coordinating finish selections early in the design phase. It’s also the system that holds up well through South Florida’s humidity and salt air conditions, which matter more here than in most markets.
For commercial work, Lutron’s Ketra line is increasingly specified in executive offices, hospitality environments, and wellness-focused spaces where lighting quality affects how people feel in a room over the course of a day. On the shading side, Lutron’s motorized shade products integrate directly with their lighting systems, which keeps the programming straightforward and the client experience consistent. See how we approach lighting design and controls across residential projects, or our motorized window shades page for how shading integrates with light control.
Lutron’s reliability track record sets it apart from most alternatives. The hardware holds, the firmware updates don’t break installed systems, and the company stands behind the product long after a project closes. For an integrator, that matters — a lighting system that requires a service call two years after installation for reasons outside your control is a problem. Lutron’s clear-connect RF protocol in RadioRA 3 is specifically engineered to avoid the signal contention issues that come up with systems sharing standard wireless bands in a dense South Florida high-rise or multi-unit building.
Being an authorized Lutron dealer means we have direct access to their dealer portal, technical support, and replacement parts when something does need attention. The programming tools for RadioRA 3 and RA2 Select are well-documented and field-tested, which keeps commissioning time predictable. That matters to builders and project managers managing tight schedules. Read more background on how Lutron compares for South Florida homes in our Lutron lighting control guide.
Lutron is a dedicated lighting and shading platform — it does not try to be a whole-home control system. That’s by design. RadioRA 3 and RA2 Select communicate with Crestron, Savant, and other control processors via direct integration drivers, which means Lutron handles what it does well while the broader control system manages everything else: audio, video, climate, access control, and security. For projects using systems integration across multiple platforms, Lutron is typically specified as the lighting and shading layer, then handed off to the primary control processor for scene-level coordination.
Ketra and Lumaris extend that integration by adding tunable output to the lighting layer without requiring a separate control path. Both communicate within the Lutron ecosystem and appear to the integrating processor as standard Lutron devices. For projects with structured cabling or dedicated low-voltage infrastructure, Lutron’s wired and wireless options can be mixed depending on what the construction schedule allows.
We bring Lutron into projects at the design phase when possible — working with architects and interior designers during SD or CD to confirm which platform fits the project scope, where keypads land relative to finish selections, and how shading integrates with the lighting zones. Getting those decisions made early avoids the coordination problems that come up when lighting control is treated as a late-stage add-on. Our design partner program is built around exactly that kind of pre-construction coordination.
After installation, we handle all programming and commission the system with the homeowner or facilities manager before we close out. Ongoing support, reprogramming for new scenes, and adding devices to an existing RadioRA 3 or RA2 Select system are all things we handle after the project is complete. If you’re specifying a project now or want to understand which Lutron platform fits your scope, reach out and we’ll walk through it with you.
